Q?

When is it most beneficial to have Sports massage?

A.

It is beneficial both before and after sport activities. Before a sport event it is advisable to have a treatment no less than 48 hours before the event to help improve your performance. You can have it any time after the activity or event to help recovery and aid the healing of any possible injuries. It will also help you to keep more supple and reduce the chances of an injury.

Q?

What can I expect from my first treatment?

A.

Before your first treatment, you will have a consultation with a qualified therapist. I will discuss your treatment reuirements, and give you the opportunity to tell me about any aches and pains you may like me to address. Depending on the treatment required I may ask you to undergo a postural assessment to better understand the underlying causes of any discomfort. A personal treatment plan will be established from your consultation.

Q?

Will my treatment be painful?

A.

Only, if you require it to be. Some treatments, such as Deep Tissue Massage or Sports Massage can be a bit painful but only within tolerance. You should always communicate if you feel it to be too much for your needs.  However, it all depends on the treatment you would like to receive: if you are coming for a relaxing holistic treatment for example, it should be pain free and soothing even if deep. Please don’t hesitate to communicate with the therapist during your treatment as this is the only way we can make sure that you are receiving the treatment perfect to you.

Q?

How will I feel as a result of the treatment?

A.

After a relaxing kind of treatment you will feel very relaxed, soothed and maybe a bit sleepy. After a Deep Tissue or Sports Massage treatment a little soreness is also normal as a therapeutic reaction but this should subside within a day or two and your body should feel the benefits of your treatment.

Q?

How often should I receive treatments?

A.

It always depends on your particular needs. For an acute problem, it is usually helpful to have at least 1 or 2 massages a week for the first 4-5 weeks. This helps to speed up recovery. Most clients choose to come once a week for a number of consecutive weeks, but it is also beneficial to come every 2 weeks or even just once a month. Generally speaking, the greater the regularity the better the results.

You should also inform the therapist about any allergies you might have, particularly nut allergies as massage creams and oils could contain nut oils.
